Position Scope:

The Respite Care Provider is a companion to the Developmentally Disabled individual providing supervision in the client's home and continues the individual's activities of daily living while parents get time away from the day-to-day care. Respite is provided to infants, children and adults, male and female of all nationalities, color, creed, religious beliefs and disabilities. Respite service is provided within a 24-hour day including holidays. Respite is provided to clients with diagnoses that include but are not limited to:




Autism
Epilepsy
Speech Delay
Prater Willi Disease


Acute Alexis
Growth Deficiency
High Risk Infant
Peterson's Disease


Blind
Heart Disease
Hydrocephalus
Gigantism


Cerebral Palsy
Hearing Loss
Hyperactivity

Essential Duties


  • Ability to independently follow instructions as outlined by the family. Services may include but are not limited to assistance in the following areas: identifying emergency situations in the home; toileting and personal hygiene; meal preparation and feeding (oral only); household safety; client safety; limited household tasks and leisure activities.
  • Will report suspected incidents of abuse within 24 hours to appropriate Protective Service Agency (APS or CPS) and follow internal agency reporting guidelines.
  • Is sensitive and responsive to a client's needs.
  • Anticipates potential problems and takes appropriate action.
  • Demonstrates courtesy and respect in all communication.
  • Adapts personal communication style to accommodate each individual.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to serving all individuals, including those with more challenging attitudes or needs.
  • Will use safety precautions at all times when providing care.
  • When called upon, may provide services to more than one client in a single day.
  • Continuously strive to provide excellent customer service, interpersonal communication and serve as a source of accurate information.


    Secondary Duties


  • A demonstrated ability to work with people.
  • Awareness and understanding of the needs of the developmentally disabled individual.
  • Respect for the dignity of the developmentally disabled individual.
  • An understanding of "Normalization" and "Choice".
  • Will be assigned to "on-call" status.
  • Accuracy, neatness & current record keeping: Clear Care Go App, time cards, mileage, and respite notes.
  • Prompt reporting of incidents and accidents within 24 hours.
  • Attends meetings, training, and in-service programs, etc. to keep abreast of latest trends and developments in the field of employment.
  • Shall initiate first aid and/or community cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as needed.
  • Must carry your respite I.D. card with you when doing respite work.


    Requirements:


  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to proficiently read, write and communicate effectively in the English language (Bilingual Preferred).
  • Shall maintain current First Aid and CPR certification (adult, infant and child) approved by the American Red Cross or any other certified agency in order to provide respite services (Title 17 of Respite Regulations). No on-line certification accepted.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A demonstrated ability to work with people.
  • Proficient auditory and visual ability.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing 50+ pounds or less, and assist in the lifting/transferring of adults.
  • Valid California Driver's License, and 3-year DMV Driving Record,.
  • Must submit to and pass the criminal background check through Department of Justice and maintain a clean record throughout employment.
  • Valid Auto Insurance and reliable transportation.
  • Current TB Test.
